Vaginoplasty

A Vaginoplasty, in certain circumstances, is considered a reconstruction surgery. This procedure is becoming an increasingly popular procedure for woman to have after they have given birth. Its purpose is to repair and tighten the tissues and vaginal muscles that have become damaged or stretched due to childbirth. Vaginoplasty helps reconstruct, strengthen, tone, and rejuvenate the vaginal muscles.

Childbirth can cause stretching and tearing of the vagina. Stretching in the walls of the vagina can cause a variety of issues that can include:

  • Stress Incontinence: Involuntary loss of urine when coughing.
  • Sexual dissatisfaction.
  • Self-consciousness with the look and feel of the vagina.

Any scarring or distortion that is caused by childbirth may result in reduced sensitivity or pain during sexual intercourse.

How Is This Procedure Different From A Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty and a Vaginoplasty are both procedures that can help with reconstruction of the genitals after childbirth. A Labiaplasty focuses on the vulva, specifically the shape and size of the labia minora which is the inner lips of the vulva. Childbirth can cause the labia to become torn or stretched. This can cause discomfort or interfere with certain activities such as:

  • Sex
  • Exercise
  • Sports
  • Wearing certain clothing

The overall purpose of a Labiaplasty is to surgically reshape the labia and remove any excess skin. A Vaginoplasty tightens a lax birth canal which has been stretched during childbirth.
