One of the first facial characteristics that people notice about another person is his or her neckline and jawline. A double chin, fat pockets, or jowls highly affect a person’s appearance, making them seem older than they appear. Extra fat in the chin and neck area can also make you self-conscience in photos, especially your profile view. This is why many patients come to Dr. Millicent Odunze Geers at Flying Horse Medical Center for Liposuction of the Chin and Jawline.
Over time, pockets of fatty tissue can develop in the chin, neck, and lower portion of the face. Once the fat develops in these specific areas, it is difficult to eliminate these deposits with diet or exercise. Weight loss typically does not have a huge impact on these specific areas of the face. Chin and neck liposuction can greatly improve a person’s self-confidence.
Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Geers, provides Liposuction services for the chin, neck, and jawline to patients in Colorado at our Monument location.
Regardless of your age, a double chin can completely change and affect the appearance you would like to present to the world. Your skin may appear to sag in places, and fat can start to be more prominent under the chin and on the front of the neck. This is commonly referred to as a “double chin.”
Microliposculpture–a delicate technique to sculpt this chin area–can reduce the appearance of fat causing your double chin. This technique, also referred to as Chin Liposuction or Submental Liposuction, can be helpful in addressing a “double chin” or “turkey neck” in patients ages 18-80+.
With this selected procedure, a special solution is injected into the treatment areas. Dr.Geers then gently inserts a thin tube, known as a cannula, into the area where the fat is located to help remove the unwanted fat pockets.
With suction, the cannula gently removes the fat. The skin may contract and tighten by itself if there is enough elasticity of the skin. However, if your skin has lost its spandex-like quality (known as elasticity), you may need Neck Lift procedure to tighten the neck skin for desired results to be obtained. Dr. Geers is one of the few Colorado Springs Plastic Surgeons skilled in VASER Liposuction, also known as VASERLipo. VASERLipo uses ultrasound to tighten the skin during the liposuction process. This extra step can help avoid a Neck Lift in some patients!
Chin and Neck liposuction can be performed by using only local anesthetic. This is known as Awake Liposuction. The recovery period is brief, and most patients can return to work and their normal activities within a few days. Dr. Geers has been specially trained in Awake Plastic Surgery technique.
Men and women alike may qualify for liposuction of the chin, jawline, and neck. Liposuction of a double chin can create a stronger jawline and more athletic neck appearance for men and a sculpted, elegant neckline and jawline for women. In both men and women, Dr. Geers’ meticulous microliposculpture technique allows facial features to appear more uniform and balanced.

Prior to your procedure, Dr. Geers will outline the areas. She will allow you to look in a mirror to confirm the areas you want treated area included. You will then be given some sedation and taken to the operating room.
At the outset of the procedure, Dr. Geers will prepare your chin and neck areas by sterilizing and draping the site. Local anesthesia known as “wetting solution” or “tumescent solution” will be injected into your chin, neck, and jawline.
Dr. Geers will make a tiny incision and insert a thin tube (known as the cannula) attached to a suction tube into the fat layer in the treatment site.
This excess fat will then be gently removed from the targeted sites with suction. The time taken for the procedure depends on the number of treatment sites and the amount of fat to be eliminated. This technique is also known as “Tumescent Liposuction.”
Liposuction-related complications are more likely to occur when a large surface area of the body is being treated, or when a substantial amount of fat is eliminated during one surgical procedure. The risks associated with Liposuction are generally reduced in the treatment of smaller areas. For this reason, chin and neck liposuction is quite safe.
