What is Earlobe Repair Surgery and What Should I Expect?

Earlobe repair surgery is a very common type of ear surgery that can be performed in our office, and typically leaves patients satisfied with the after results. Normally a patient will seek out Earlobe Repair Surgery after they have sustained an injury, or accidentally torn out a pierced or gauged earlobe.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Earlobe Surgery?

If you are experiencing any of the following issues, you may be a candidate for earlobe repair surgery.

  • Slightly enlarged piercings that are too big to hold a standard stud.
  • Stretched earlobes from large gauge plug and tunnel jewelry.
  • Stretched earlobes from age or wearing heavy earrings.
  • A torn or split earlobe, commonly caused by ripped-out earrings.

Patients report more confidence, after receiving Earlobe Repair Surgery. Our patients even have the confidence to ware their hair up for the first time in years. They no longer feel as though they have to use their hair to cover the problem areas they see in their ears.

When Can I Return To Normal Activity After Surgery?

There is usually no downtime for Earlobe Repair Surgery. You will be able to return to work or school, the same day after surgery. However, some patients tend to experience some soreness, redness, or some bruising. Things to avoid post surgery include:
  • Avoid exercise and heavy lifting for about 4 weeks.
  • Avoid submerging the corrected area in water for 4 to 6 weeks.

Can I Get My Ears Pierced Again After Surgery?

It is recommended that you wait 6 to 8 weeks post-op to ensure proper healing before your ears pierced. Also, it is important that you move your piercing and not get your ears pierced in the same spot as before. The tissue at the surgical site is not as strong as previously before.
